Name: Nightstrike, Malus
Age: 1745
Sex: Male
Ethnicity/Species: Shadow Demon
Rank: Dim Hollow Assassin Guild’s Active Chief (Civilian of the Demon Court)
Court: Demon
Appearance: Essentially Malus has tattered wings; true leathery fashion, but with a difference: the edges of his wing create an arcing blade, giving him twin weapons to use. These blades cover hardened flesh of the wings which have continued growth. The blades are composed stainless steel with a serrated edge for additional damage. Where the body lies between the wings, there is no physical appearance except in the form of a “humanoid” gaseous figure. The gas which makes up his “form” swirls in a clockwise motion. For his eyes, two diamond shaped slits, filled with pure white light escapes; allowing him to search within the darkness. His form stands at a height of 6ft. His bladed wings are approximately 20” in length along the edges of his wings.
Personality: Having grown up in the rougher parts of Dim Hollow, Malus learned that as a survival technique you strike first in any confrontation. It caused him to become twisted, sinister and dark – a perfect creature for a dark, chaotic world. He has such pain and anger inside him; thinking only of the blood which can be spilled to fuel his actions and life. His anger stems from the control which his Master has over him, binding him with the pure white light contained within his eye-slits.
Weapon: Malus’ weapons are only his bladed wings. They are approximately 20” in length due to his wingspan and thus are deadly to come across. Simple blades made from hardened flesh with steel infused to craft such vicious slashing weaponry.
A second weapon is that due to his gaseous form, he can draw upon the darkness to conceal his wings and blades, allowing him to strike without being seen; this is known as “Shrouding Darkness”. This draws in the darkness which surrounds him, helping to mask his entire form, allowing him to sneak past minimal “light” sources as well as conceal him before an attack.
Weakness: As the blades are fashioned over hardened flesh, over time these will decay and must be replaced. This can happen at any time – during a fight or simply from sharpening the blades. With each impact, the flesh beneath the blades gets worn away. Depending on the duration of the fight can determine how long a set of blades will be able to be used. During this replacement, Malus essentially has no weapon aside from his “Shrouding Darkness” ability. The “Shrouding Darkness” ability can only be used when there are minimal light sources around; i.e. one or two torches illuminating an area – this enables Malus to safely pass these small light sources without causing himself harm as mentioned below.
Another weakness to Malus is that because he is essentially darkness incarnated in gas form, he is vulnerable to any sources of light. As a way of “taming” or “controlling” Malus, his Masters infused pure white light within his form. Should he come in contact with any sources of light – be it daylight, lanterns, torches, etc, without the activation of his “Shrouding Darkness” then the pure white light inside his eyes would become unstable to his form and cause him to explode in an arcing white light. Whilst this gives the impression that Malus has been killed, it actually only keeps him away for several days – allowing him to reform from the darkness as he was before he died. Also, due to his gaseous nature, he is unable to survive within areas of high pressure: such as high altitudes or depths.
History: Malus Nightstrike was adapted into the creature he was today. When Dim Hollow became the world of darkness and chaos that it was today; when the last light was struck from the skies – the people within this realm had to adapt to survive. Malus had once been the construction of someone’s nightmare which had come into being through the fear this person had whilst in Dim Hollow. Due to the location of the nightmare being fixed into Dim Hollow, this was where Malus Nightstrike came into being. The demon form which had come forth had been at first naught but a shadow of the demon dreamt up – the nightmare being different from the reality. So in order for Malus to survive, his body turned from shadow into a gaseous form which allowed him to blend into the darkness. His wings were nothing but tattered remnants of wings, not designed so much for flight, but more for propellant forces, enabling him to shoot forwards.
Malus learned that in order to survive, one must kill first before being killed. The only creatures who were able to kill him were those that were faster at getting their strikes in. Whenever he was killed, he just seemed to vanish from existence for a few days. It felt like he was in a never-ending sleep for the duration he was away for. After several days, he would reform from the darkness accumulated within Dim Hollow and he was once more ready for the hunt. He became one of the top predators within Dim Hollow, hunting down those unfortunate enough to get in his way.
All this killing eventually drew upon the attention of the Assassins – who wished to make Malus a part of their organisation. Their reasoning behind this was better to have such a violent, cold and calculated killer with them, than be against him. In order to ensure that Malus would commit himself to the wills of his “Masters”, he was infused with pure white light, forming the two diamond slits for his eyes. This would give the Assassins control over Malus by having a way to continually defeat him via the use of light. Albeit, Malus would still be able to return after several days recovery from the darkness, but it would stem down any chance of him massacring the Assassins.
Due to the dark nature of Dim Hollow’s Assassins guild, Malus made a perfect recruit. When asked to prove that he could kill without mercy or regret, he decided to show off. He made an example of the target before he killed them: making them become paranoid and spooked before he ended the target’s life with a single slash across his throat. Then, to show how ruthless he was, Malus chose to carve the body up as an example to anyone who decided that they might try to oppose the Assassins within Dim Hollow. He quickly rose up the ranks of the guild after many years of captive service under them; providing him with a colourful life outside of his civilian life within the Demon Court.
RP Sample: “Do I scare you, yet?”
Malus watched the reader with pure white eyes as sparks flew up from the friction caused as he sharpened his bladed wings off one another. The gaseus form seemed to be sitting down on a rotten tree stump within his home of Dim Hollow. Blood dripped and splattered onto the floor with each flick, slice and grind of his blades, creating a sound which would send chills down a humanoid’s spine.
“This is no place for you, reader.”
The voice would have sounded like gravel rumbling through the darkness. The gas swirled slightly, as if the motions of his wings sharpening his blades was enacting upon water within a tank being moved from side to side. His head seemed to tilt, the only signs being the white diamond-shaped eyes changing from vertical to diagonal as the wings stopped sharpening for now.
“Your time has come, reader. I will decide your fate in this dark realm."
With that, Malus launched forwards towards the reader, one bladed wing pulled back, ready to strike whilst the other was already horizontal before his gaseous body, defending with an offensive attack. Before the strike, darkness would envelop the blades, wrapping like a swarth around his already gaseous form, blending him in with the darkness surrounding Dim Hollow.
